On the Fence

This blog shares real-world stories, lessons learned, and practical insights from the jobsites of Renegade Fence installers. There’s a surprising amount that goes into what might seem to some like “just a simple fence.” From wood fence and gate installations to the realities of running a small trade business, I'm documenting the wins, the challenges, and everything in between.

Installing a Vinyl Fence gate in the cold winter rain.
35 and raining! All winter baby!

I'll admit that this post is a bit of a cop out, but I got to keep this blog consistent! Call it a "New Year's Resolution" but I'm trying to do at least one post a week and New Years seems like the wrong time to fall off the train! Blogging and content creation is super important for businesses nowadays. So, for all ye new entrepreneurs out there remember that "Content is King"! Things have been pretty slow these last few weeks due to the holidays so don't got much to say. Many fence companies straight up take the winter off. Renegade Fence is a bit newer operation, so I haven't quite earned that luxury yet. My goal is to get things moving more or less consistently this winter so that I'm ready to go all Renegade and attack some serious fence lines this summer.

So yeah, while many fence companies are hibernating and taking the winter off, Renegade Fence is still very much open for business! This seems to concern many people. They see me out digging and hammering in the wet and cold weather. They often voice concern about my digging in the "frozen ground". Truth be told, I relish a challenge! And there is a tradeoff working in the cold. Summertime can easily get into the triple digits. I'll easily chug 2+ gallons of water on a hot summer day. In winter, yes the ground is a little bit harder but the air feels great! I barely break a sweat!

Here's another entrepreneurial tip: Billionaire angel investor Naval Ravikant says "Find what feels like play to you but looks like work to others". As funny as it may sound, I enjoy digging holes, carrying 80lb bags of concrete, and hammering boards together all day. I enjoy being in my body and exploring its limits. I find fence construction to be very calming and meditative. Particularly the digging part! So yeah, don't worry about me "slaving away" in your yard. Know that I'm digging and working joyfully back there! What kind of work do you find enjoyable that everyone else hates?

So yeah, a bit of a ramble this week but I gotta keep this blogging thing up! Especially going into the new year... May not be my best work but, you win some and you lose some! Perfection is actually an imperfection! Better to have something done "good enough" than not at all! You miss every shot you never take! C's get degrees! Fire and forget! Keep moving forward!

What do you need to keep consistent this year? Go get it done today! Oh and, if you DON'T like digging holes in the cold winter rain! Give me a call! I'll happily come fix that crooked fence for you!
