No mission too small!
I've been hearing from quite a few folks around Boise lately that they’ve had trouble getting calls back for fence repairs and smaller installs. I think part of that is because many fence crews start getting especially busy this time of year chasing larger projects. While I definitely enjoy building a big 100–200+ foot long fence, I also genuinely like fitting in smaller installs, repairs, and gate work throughout the week. Renegade Fence is a smaller operation, which means t

It's for the dog, not a hog!
Just finished up this hog panel garden fence in Meridian, Idaho. I’ve wanted to build one of these for a long time, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. This style combines the clean look of a modern garden fence with the durability and function of a welded hog wire panel fence. My old boss at Nevada Fence had a similar fence around his swimming pool years ago, and I always thought it looked great. I think this one turned out even better, if I may say so myself. This

Tedious and Messy, But Worth It: Cedar Fence Stains
I've been doing quite a few fence stains this season. I won't lie, they're messy, tedious, and annoying to do; but gee, they sure look great when they're finished! The stain used for this one was Ready Seal in Natural Cedar. It’s a great product and very easy to use. The way it soaks into the wood helps prevent blotching and drips. Fully transparent oil stains also do a great job of bringing out the natural beauty of the wood grain. This job was a pickets and rails replacemen

New Land Speed Record!
I’ve been really cranking out cedar fences lately! I must be getting well practiced, because I actually set a personal speed record on this one. It was 70 ft long and was probably the smoothest fence job I’ve ever done. I barely had to trim a single board! I probably could have done it in one day if I hadn’t needed to allow the concrete to set overnight. Despite flying through this one, it came out straight as an arrow on top! For this one, I used my usual premium 7/8-inch-th

The Cedar Fence Wave Continues
I put in yet another cedar fence with steel PostMaster posts and a 4-ft single-swing gate! I’ve been cranking them out lately—you’d think I was running a fence company or something. I’m convinced customers conspire somewhere to decide which types of fences they want me to build. I’ll have nothing but wood for a month, then nothing but vinyl, and so on. Lately, I’ve been itching to get some vinyl jobs, so customers, please conspire that way—I miss my vinyl suppliers over at Va

A Complementary Stain
I did this fence rather early on in the Renegade Fence life cycle. It was still very much in its infancy. As with every project I do, there's usually something goofy that happens. In an entrepreneurial "live and learn" moment, I actually ended up doing the stain for free! While I had built and stained plenty of fences before, I did the bid while I was still developing my own price structure and sales process. I had made it my personal goal to give on the spot pricing at estim

New Tools Unlocked!
I've been having to replace quite a few tools lately. Which is fine by me! For all the nerds out there, every new tool I get reminds me of finding a new weapon in a video game, "New Weapon Unlocked"! 10 years ago, I got out of the Marine Corps and bought our first house. We decided to have new flooring installed. The installers we'd contracted through Home Depot ended up giving us the runaround! They ripped out our old flooring and bounced off to a bigger job after day one.

18 Holes! And I'm not talking about golf...
Have you ever been so tired that you felt like a wet paper bag? I sure got to that point while building this one! My new personal record for “most post holes dug by hand in one day” is 18! You might be wondering, "why the hell didn't you use an auger to dig all those holes!?" to which I reply, "good question...". Digging each hole at least 2 feet deep, that’s like burrowing down four stories! It felt like that time when you were a kid and tried to dig to China! and actually

Happy Freakin' New Year!
35 and raining! All winter baby! I'll admit that this post is a bit of a cop out, but I got to keep this blog consistent! Call it a "New Year's Resolution" but I'm trying to do at least one post a week and New Years seems like the wrong time to fall off the train! Blogging and content creation is super important for businesses nowadays. So, for all ye new entrepreneurs out there remember that "Content is King"! Things have been pretty slow these last few weeks due to the hol

The Double Swing Gates of Hell!
The title here might be a bit overly dramatic, but this one fought me hard... What was meant to be a routine 12-foot wood dog-ear double swing gate installation devolved into a multi-day slog of frustration. Right out of the gate (no pun intended), I picked up a nice little scratch while adjusting a post bracket. Nothing serious—but annoying enough that I eventually had to grab some scissors and trim off a flap of skin that kept catching on everything. A great start! The firs

On the Fence
Howdy! Howdy! Howdy! Welcome to the maiden voyage of the Renegade Fence LLC blog! I never thought I'd one day be writing about fences... But here I am! And let's be honest, on the surface, "fencing" doesn't sound like the most exciting topic on planet Earth. My goal here is to create something that's at least mildly entertaining and worthwhile to read. My hope is that you came here looking for fencing solutions and leave with a good laugh or some new perspective in mind.
